The health-enhancing effect of the dietary supplement beta-glucan made it possible to obtain the consent of the European Food Safety Council (EFSA) for the use of health claims for products containing beta-glucan 1-3,1-4.

The solution implemented by the Beta Bio Technology company differs from the already existing basic features:

• This is a waste-free, eco-friendly method of biorefining by-products of the cereal-milling industry, such as oat bran.

• The technology is effective and does not require the use of additional enzymatic treatments, after which contamination in the product would remain.

• It allows to obtain a beta-glucan isolate with a purity of up to 95%.

• Safe reagents are used, which in the target products take the form of trace amounts of table salt.

  

Highly purified gelling 1-3, 1-4 beta-glucan derived from oats, obtained in the biorefining process to obtain high value-added products

The notified technical technology solution in the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland under the name “Method of extracting beta-glucan from cereals” obtained patent no. 224430, currently being processed in the EPO procedure. Based on research carried out at CBMIM PAN in Łódź, the Company also filed an application for the invention in the UPRP pn. “Medical use of beta-glucan” – P.421338.

Highly purified gelling 1-3,1-4 beta-glucan is characterized by innovation thanks to: high purity at the level of up to 95%, low level of impurities (starch, protein, cellulose) solubility in water, rheological properties in solution and gel state, ability to water binding, emulsion stabilization and thickening, texture improvement and stabilization of other products, lack of smell, and lack of color.

The final products of the solution implemented by the company will be: beta-glucan from oats (1-3.1-4-BD) with a purity up to 95%, preparations of vegetable proteins in the form of concentrate (containing at least 30% of protein) and isolate (min. 60% protein), preparations of insoluble oat fiber.

Obtained in accordance with the patented pro-health technology, biologically active products, will find application in the following markets: food, dietary supplements, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, animal, and, according to the company’s latest research, on the medical market. The direct recipients will be manufacturing companies operating in these industry sectors, and target groups – consumers of products offered by these enterprises.
